About us

Everyday Wine , made the honest way.

Porcupine Ridge, established in 1997, is an accessible, everyday wine brand offering exceptional value and superb drinking quality for tables worldwide.

The philosophy

The brand adheres to an honest, natural winemaking philosophy that is true to type and true to cultivar, with no acidification or additions, focusing on generous palate weight and individual varietal character expression.

No acidification. No additions. Just the grape, expressed properly.

That discipline is what lets a Chenin Blanc taste like Chenin Blanc and a Syrah taste like Syrah, vintage after vintage, at a price that makes it an easy yes.

The name

Named after the Crested Porcupine families inhabiting the farm, the brand’s identity is rooted in the natural environment and ongoing biodiversity conservation efforts, with labels featuring pen and ink drawings by wildlife artist Zakkie Eloff.

The porcupines are shy and nocturnal, so sightings are rare. Their portraits, however, are on every bottle.

The family

As one of the original key brands in the Boekenhoutskloof portfolio, Porcupine Ridge is benchmarked on over-delivery for its accessible price point compared to the premium wines in the portfolio.

It has achieved household brand status through its focus on food pairing and casual dining, particularly via the popular annual Pizzeria Challenge in South Africa.

On the label

Drawn by hand, worn with pride.

Every Porcupine Ridge label carries a pen and ink porcupine by wildlife artist Zakkie Eloff. It is a small reminder that the wine, the farm and the animals that live on it are all part of the same story.
